In view of the changing family concept and globalisation, every thing changed over night for senior citizens. Children shifted abroad leaving their parents alone in the motherland. Their fragile condition and delicate health did not permit them to lead an independent life. They needed some shoulder to rely upon. That is how Sandhya Sanjeevini, a unit of Jayanagara Sthree Samaja Trust took its birth in 2001. The cost of construction of both the Ground floor and the first floor was 1 crore, and has been met by generous contributions from the trust members, Their families, friends,well-wishers and philanthropic public.
Rotary Foundation has assisted financially towards the furnishing and equipment for the kitchen.
Accommodation consists of private rooms with attached bathroom facility.
Residents have the luxury of enjoying the privacy of their rooms or using the common facilities and interacting with other residents. The common infrastructure includes meditation/meeting hall, landscaped garden, guest room and dining space.
A solar heater takes care of hot water. The food served is vegetarian and includes breakfast, lunch, dinner with coffee/tea in the morning and afternoon Rain water harvesting has been adopted to help increase the water table for the bore well.
A dedicated residential team takes care of the day-to-day operations of the Home. A Management committee consisting of the members from the trust takes care of running the home. They are involved in all aspects of running the home comprising selection of residents, maintenance and management of the home.
The trust has tied up with a hospital nearby to provide immediate medical attention whenever necessary. Cultural activities such as musical sessions and discourses by eminent personalities are organised frequently for recreation and entertainment of the residents. Residents take active role in various initiatives-be it regular discourses,music,get-together,help children of Vidya Vikas School maintained by the trust, work with management committee on the day to day operations of the Home.
The trust is exploring the possibility of solar backed lighting system at home for both ground floor and first floor. Priority will be for lighting in the common areas and rooms of residents.
In the changing social and economic dimensions of our society, the need for enabling the senior citizens to lead a life of peace, comfort, Independence is mandatory.
We need to respect those who have struggled in their prime for the growth and prosperity of the generations to come. The initiative by the Jayanagara Sthree Samaja Trust to enhance the accommodation at Sandhya Sanjeevini is a small step in this direction.
Given the support of its members, institution, philanthropic public, the trust is confident of sustaining the qualities that has made Sandhya Sanjeevini a preferred home by many senior citizens.
