Activities of Samaja

Now we are obliged to say a few things about the parent body Jayanagara Sthree Samaja. since its launch in the year 1954 it has been playing a vital role in promoting cultural and socio religious activities. Members are mostly housewives. Samaja provides a common platform for them to mutually interact and exchange ideas with one another. Our motto is "LET US COMBINE OUR STRENGTH TO SERVE SOCIETY" in some way or the other. in view of this factor, a number of women oriented activities are undertaken by the Samaja, some programmes are conducted independently by the samaja and some in collaboration with other Government and Non Government organisations like Inner Wheel Club, Institute of Yoga, Department of Agriculture, Ladies Associations of neighboring areas. To mention a few of our activities are :- Tailoring, embroidery classes, fabric painting classes, short terms courses in Ikebana flower arrangement, doll making, craft in vegetables, preparation of Jams, Jellies, egg less cakes, biscuits etc. Our members evince keen interest and work together as a team in these programmes. Classes are conducted to create an awareness of the nutritious value of variety of food stuffs.

Music and dance are integral part of Indian culture. we have a good number of singers, programmes of a wide variety are held in light music, bhajans, folk songs during festivals. A Group of talented ladies under fine arts section periodically stage skits, plays as part of cultural programmes on important occasions. In collaboration with the Arya Samaja, our Samaja took a lead in organising thread ceremony to be performed for ladies. It was indeed a special event. Quite a large number of ladies received initiation amidst the chanting of Vedic mantras by professional Acharyas. All the traditional customs relating to the ceremony were observed on this occasion. It was even telecast by one of the T.V channels. Such innovative programmes portray a gradual change in the general attitude of the society.

In-fact quite a few of our members are learning Vedic chanting under guidance of professional teachers.

Religious practices also bind members together. Pooja celebrations are held twice a month. It is followed by some cultural programmes such as music, bhajan, mimicry, fashion shows, fancy dress etc. the particular group also hosts a 'High Tea'.

All our members share our concern, as they are bound by common interest and ideal. Whenever we launch any new project, our members come forward voluntarily and contribute generously for the common cause.

Excursions and Picnics are also arranged to places of religious interest and places of historic importance, once a year.

Now one must have a sound mind in a sound body. How can we overlook physical fitness? So Yoga classes have been an integral part of our institution. Considering the rise in Hypertension, Diabetes and other allergic problems, we have started yoga therapy classes.

Elections for various posts such as President, Secretary, Treasurer and Executive committee are held once in two years.

Members are elected for these posts in a democratic way. The executive body consists of both elderly members and youngsters. The senior members by virtue of their experience in the field guide the junior members. In this way we make a point to train the second group of leadership where in course of time it would assure greater responsibility in the activities of the Samaja.

Over a span of more than six decades, our Samaja has earned good reputation by merit of the good work it has done in the field of women welfare. But the credit of our success is largely owing to the moral and financial support from philanthropists, well wishers, our members, several NGO's, friend circle etc.

The good work that has started must continue in the years to come, we must strengthen ourselves to do better service to the society. In this regard we also invite suggestions from all those who are associated with us and who are interested in our projects.
